At Amsterdam University College (AUC), courses cover a 16-week semester. AUC applies continuous assessment, where assessment is spread over the semester. In the Statistics course, part of the assessment consists of a screen capture.
Students show, by means of a recording of their computer screen, how they approach a statistical problem in the software. In doing so, they explain choices made and how they interpret the results. The screen capture encourages students to think about how they can demonstrate in a recorded film that they have achieved the learning objectives and gives a good picture of the deeper level of mastery.
This form of assessment originated during the corona pandemic and pleased students and teachers so much that it was retained after the corona pandemic.
