Defence

A defence is an examination where you challenge students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills through an oral presentation, possibly with an audience present. This form is mainly used for defending, for example, a research, dissertation or thesis where a panel of lecturers or experts assesses the defence. The panel often receives a written version of the assignment beforehand. 

In a defence, you evaluate different aspects, including knowledge of the topic, analysis and synthesis skills, communication skills, defence skills and the ability to receive and answer criticism and questions. During a defence, for example, a student may defend why they chose a particular research methodology or they may be challenged to make arguments for or against a specific policy.
