Portfolio interview

A portfolio interview is an assessment form in which the student presents a portfolio in which he or she gives an overview of his or her achievements, skills and knowledge. The portfolio interview is a reflective test form aimed at showing the student’s growth and development. You can use the portfolio interview, for example, to present a portfolio of reflections on one’s own achievements in the context of a graduation research, a portfolio of examples of assignments and presentations in the context of a communication or media study, or a portfolio of examples of self-made products and designs.

The advantages of a portfolio interview as an assessment form are:

• Personal growth – a portfolio interview provides an opportunity for the student to show and reflect on his or her growth and development during the study.
• Holistic assessment – a portfolio interview provides an opportunity to assess the student on multiple aspects, including content, presentation and reflection.

To use a portfolio interview as a form of assessment, you can follow the following steps:

1. Determine the content of the portfolio, taking into account the final attainment levels and the competences that students need to achieve.
2. Supervise the construction of the portfolio, for example through workshops and guidance on reflecting on their own performance.
3. Determine the assessment of the portfolio interview, taking into account portfolio content, presentation and reflection on own performance.
4. Hold the interview with the student, discussing the portfolio and giving the student the opportunity to present and reflect on his or her performance, skills and knowledge.
